David Wright is likely headed for the disabled list for two weeks and perhaps longer after an MRI revealed Monday a stress fracture in his lower back.
General manager Sandy Alderson made the announcement shortly before 4 p.m. but Wright remains active as the Mets wait for a second opinion, which they expect later this evening. Wright first injured his back during an April 19 collision with the Astros' Carlos Lee at Citi Field. Wright was diving toward third base in an attempt to tag Lee, and has been getting treatment on his back since that day.
"I was preparing for Josh Johnson and the Marlins tonight, and coming out of [the exam], my head was spinning," Wright said. "I think shock is a good word for it." (Newsday)
