The Mets salvaged a series finale for the second time on a miserable trip and the bad news keeps mounting. Team officials learned Wednesday that Carlos Delgado won't be back until September, if at all.
Initially more alarming, David Wright appeared in enough discomfort during the top of the ninth of the 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks that Jerry Manuel and trainer Ray Ramirez had to visit him on the basepaths. Wright remained in the game and downplayed the trouble afterward, but Manuel said the third baseman had a strain behind the right knee and probably would get it examined. Manuel also sensed Wright had at least a mild groin issue.
"I don't know who's checking it out," Wright said, contradicting his manager while maintaining there was no issue. "No. I'm good to go."
The Mets (53-61), who completed their trip to San Diego and Arizona at 2-5, avoided getting swept in Phoenix for the first time in franchise history. Continue
