There are only so many punches to the stomach - or fastballs to the batting helmet - any team should have to take.
With David Wright becoming the latest high-profile player to land on the disabled list amid a team-wide epidemic this season, the Mets surely needed the euphoric release provided when Daniel Murphy's RBI single in the ninth inning lifted them to a 3-2 victory over the Giants Sunday at iti Field.
"You just have to keep going. But it's nice to come in here and smile after a win," said Jeff Francoeur, who slid across the plate with the winning run. "It's not a great scenario with (Wright) out. We're missing four (regulars) now, but it's the smartest way to go.
"I know David's not going to be happy, but at this point, it's the right thing to do." Continue
