Second baseman Luis Castillo dropped a routine pop-up by A-Rod with two outs in the ninth, turning what would have been the final out of a Mets win into the most unlikely game-ending error the Yankees have ever seen.
Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira both scored on Castillo's blunder, lifting the Bombers to a 9-8 win over the Mets that had everyone at Yankee Stadium trying to figure out what had just occurred.
The loss took A-Rod off the hook, erased what would have been a bitter loss for Mariano Rivera and handed Francisco Rodriguez his first blown save in 17 opportunities this season. Continue
