A stomach virus kept Carlos Beltran out of the game and knocked out John Maine as the righty was pitching a gem. But the Mets stayed well enough to beat the Marlins, 3-2, in front of 40,482 at Citi Field Sunday afternoon, a day after a patchwork lineup failed them.
Maine threw six scoreless innings but left the game after going to the mound for the beginning of the seventh inning. He had been seen lying on a clubhouse couch for much of the morning before the game.
Angel Pagan, Fernando Martinez and Omir Santos all had RBI doubles for the Mets, who have won 7-of-9. Pagan, who started instead of the ill Beltran, left the game in the fourth inning after hurting his groin chasing Hanley Ramirez's double to center. He is day-to-day, the Mets announced. Continue
