With his roster spot on the line due to a logjam at catcher, Omir Santos came through for himself and for the Mets in huge fashion last night in a 2-1 win over the Marlins in 11 innings.
The diminutive Santos accounted for both Mets runs, and his second hit of the night -- a single on the first pitch he saw from reliever Brian Sanches -- was the game-winner, driving Gary Sheffield in from third with one out.
It turned out Santos need not have worried. The Mets were working on a trade of fellow backup catcher Ramon Castro to the White Sox during the game and completed it moments afterward, receiving minor-league pitcher Lance Broadway in return. Continue
