The Mets picked up Carlos Delgado's option yesterday, the same day Pedro Martinez filed for free agency. Mets GM Omar Minaya followed through on his recent promise to pick up the $12 million option on the final year of Delgado's contract, with Minaya describing the 36-year-old slugger as "a key part of our plans for 2009."
Delgado is coming off a roller-coaster season that saw the first baseman get off to a terrible start before suddenly (and suspiciously) emerging as the Mets' MVP almost the instant Willie Randolph was replaced by Jerry Manuel. Continue
