Mike Schmidt is full of it. At least that was the Mets' interpretation of the Hall of Fame third baseman's motivational e-mail to the Phillies yesterday. In a message that was posted on the Phillies' clubhouse door, Schmidt, who spent his entire career in Philadelphia, wrote, in part: "The Mets know you're better than they are. They remember last year. You guys are never out of the game. Welcome to the challenge that confronts you this weekend."
David Wright's reaction? "He is obviously biased in his e-mails," Wright said after the Mets' 3-0 loss to the Phillies in the opener of a three-game series last night. "I see a starting pitcher that goes out and throws like Brett Myers [last night's starter], that works much better than a rally cry from a former player." Continue
