Mike Pelfrey entered yesterday's game with a 16-inning scoreless streak. Meet the Great American Ballpark, where scoreless streaks come to die. Pelfrey pitched well, but gave up three home runs (to Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips and Edwin Encarnacion) in this stadium, which is slightly larger than your average Little League Field, and he wound up with a no decision.
Mets interim manager Jerry Manuel was pleased with his starter, though, for lasting seven innings and keeping the team in the game."Mike Pelfrey was really outstanding for the most part," Manuel said. "It appears as though he is evolving into one of those guys that could give up a single and the next pitch is a groundball double play. That's huge. That keeps his pitch count lower and that keeps us in the game." Continue
