The Mets literally watched a chance to regain a first-place tie slip away Saturday night. David Wright and Carlos Beltran struck out looking on full-count offerings in the seventh to strand the bases loaded with the Mets trailing by one, and the Reds ultimately won, 7-2, Saturday night.
Despite their second straight loss following a 10-game winning streak, the Mets remained a game behind the Phillies, who lost at Florida. The Mets (52-46) will attempt a split this afternoon when Mike Pelfrey goes for his seventh straight win against All-Star Edinson Volquez. Continue
